Orthotic intervention for metatarsalgia relief

چکیده
Multiple pathologies of mechanical origin that produce pain occur in the vicinity of the metatarsal heads, and these are lumped into a general category called metatarsalgia. Metatarsalgia is defined as pain from the area of five different metatarsal heads, five different metatarsophalangeal joints, and a variety of soft-issue structures in between. It usually occurs plantarly. Although commonly thought of as a symptom secondary to a more specific pathology, metatarsalgia is frequently categorized as both a symptom and a diagnosis.

Dynamic impression insole in rheumatoid foot with metatarsal pain.
BACKGROUND Custom molded insoles with metatarsal supports are used to redistribute excessive loading under the metatarsal heads in patients with metatarsalgia. However, these pressure reductions are usually insufficient for the rheumatoid foot with painful deformed metatarsal heads. We developed an effective insole made by sequential foam padding under successive walking impression. METHODS S...
متن کاملMechanism of orthotic therapy for the painful cavus foot deformity
BACKGROUND People who have extremely high arched feet or pes cavus often suffer from substantial foot pain. Custom-made foot orthoses (CFO) have been shown to be an effective treatment option, but their specificity is unclear. It is generally thought that one of the primary functions of CFO is redistributing abnormal plantar pressures. This study sought to identify variables associated with pai...

متن کاملTelescoping osteotomy for pressure metatarsalgia.
A review is presented of 508 feet in 310 patients after telescoping osteotomy of the lesser metatarsals for metatarsalgia. The patients were predominantly female (80%), with a mean age of 55 years; the range of follow-up was 1 to 12 years. In 22% of the patients the metatarsalgia was associated with rheumatoid arthritis. Improvements in assessment and modifications in technique are reported and...
متن کاملChevron osteotomy of lesser metatarsals for intractable plantar callosities.
We performed distal chevron osteotomy of the second, third, or fourth metatarsal for painful plantar callosities in 19 non-rheumatoid patients (16 women, 3 men; 21 feet); their mean age was 59 years (32 to 85). The mean follow-up was four years (2 to 7). The overall results were good in 16 feet, fair in two, and poor in three, with four patients still having painful plantar callosities. There w...
